Maldives Map

The Maldives are an island nation in South Asia’s Indian Ocean. It is made up of a double chain of twenty-six atolls that run north-south between Minicoy Island (the southernmost section of India’s Lakshadweep) and the Chagos Archipelago. The Maldives are 700 kilometers (430 miles) southwest of Sri Lanka and 400 kilometers (250 miles) south of India.

The Maldives is a lovely island country in the Indian Ocean, southwest of India and Sri Lanka. It is made up of 26 atolls, each of which is made up of numerous islands.

A total of 1,190 coral islands are spread over the equator. The Maldives has an area of approximately 90,000 square kilometers, although just about 1% of that area is land. The rest is water, including the immense length of the Indian Ocean.

The Maldives map is speckled with numerous resorts and hotels, each giving a distinct experience to guests. The majority of these resorts are on private islands, with many having overwater villas, private pools, and a variety of activities including snorkeling, diving, and excursions.

Maldives Atolls

The Maldives’ atolls are constructed by coral reefs that surround a central lagoon. The Maldives islands are low-lying and have an average elevation of about 1.5 meters above sea level. The islands are vulnerable to rising sea levels caused by climate change.

Malé, the capital city of Maldives is located on Kaafu Atoll. With a population of over 150,000 people, Malé is one of the world’s most densely populated cities. It is also the Maldives’ commercial and cultural center, featuring tourist sites like the Maldives National Museum, the Islamic Center, and the Hukuru Miskiy mosque.

International Airports

Velana International Airport (MLE) – Located in the capital city of Malé, Velana International Airport is the main gateway to the Maldives. It is the largest airport in the country and serves both domestic and international flights. It is the most used airport for commercial flights.

Gan International Airport (GAN) – Located on the island of Gan in Addu Atoll, Gan International Airport is the second largest airport in the Maldives. It serves domestic flights to and from Malé and also has limited international flights.

Hanimaadhoo International Airport (HAQ) – Located on the island of Hanimaadhoo in the northern part of the Maldives, Hanimaadhoo International Airport serves both domestic and international flights.

Maafaru International Airport (MFU) – Located on the island of Maafaru in Noonu Atoll, Maafaru International Airport serves both domestic and international flights.

Fuvahmulah Airport (FVM) – Located on the island of Fuvahmulah in Gnaviyani Atoll, Fuvahmulah Airport serves domestic flights to and from Malé.

Kooddoo Airport (GKK) – Located on the island of Kooddoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Kooddoo Airport serves domestic flights to and from Malé.

Ifuru Airport (IFU) – Located on the island of Ifuru in Raa Atoll, Ifuru Airport serves domestic flights to and from Malé.

Kudahuvadhoo Airport (DDD) – Located on the island of Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll, Kudahuvadhoo Airport serves domestic flights to and from Malé.
